The family crest 'Matoni-Atariya' is also called 'Matomon'. 'Mato' means 'target'. It is used as a shop name or trademark by merchants, wishing for good luck. It is believed to have become a family crest in the early modern period (compiled by Ito Kosaku, 'Japanese Family Crests'). The 'Mato' pattern used in designs is thought to be derived from the square shape with corners standing, used in Yabusame (Japanese horseback archery) (Takahashi Hitoshi, 'Encyclopedia of Family Crests').

For an XL size (and compared to another t-shirt ordered) this is a snug fit for me, but acceptable. I would order a bigger size if you are size 16. printing is already on the t-shirt and is fine.
