Hoefnagel's Mediaeval illumination of a manuscript - a butterfly, mushroom, and flower watercolor sketch
Our butterfly image is based on a butterfly illustration from the mediaeval manuscript, "Mira calligraphiae monumenta" or "Model book of Calligraphy", this vintage butterfly and mushroom image shows a beautifully drawn butterfly, with its wings closed, sitting on top of an open red flower. Underneath of both sits an upside-down mushroom. All beautifully rendered in pen and ink and watercolor. The beautiful butterfly and mushroom illustration was created by mediaeval nature illustrator Joris Hoefnagel (Flemish and Hungarian, Austria) in the late 1500s.
Hoefnagel's illuminations showing botanicals and insects were what Hoefnagel was known for painting. He rendered his botanicals and insects with precision, unlike other nature artists of his day. Our butterfly and mushroom illustration looks great on our gifts. The butterfly and mushroom are wonderful gifts for someone who loves beautiful vintage images and antique art.

I got this image in 110 pieces as I cannot commit to large puzzles. This one took me about an hour and was fairly easy. Perhaps 252 pieces would have better suited me for a little more complexity. This is not my favourite sugar skull as I prefer more girly colours like hot pink, reds and purples but I enjoyed doing this one. There is a lot of detail in the image and it was interesting to do. I don't think I will buy the larger puzzle count just because there are other sugar skull images that I much prefer.
Again very good quality puzzle and durable storage box that fits very well on small bookcase. The image was well positioned on this one so who ever printed this one got it pretty bang on.

We are pleased with the jigsaw itself. However we are disappointed the box is far bigger than the jigsaw and not the kind of storage box we expected i.e. Ravensburger standard; rather it's a postage box and not very sturdy at that. Given it cost £18 + pp we did expect more. The image quality is good.
The pieces are rather thin and flimsy.

Jigsaw puzzle is of excellent quality, finish. Only thing I was not too happy about was the actual image printed on the outside of the accompanying presentation box. It was printed approximately A6 in size and was half the actual size of the presentation box. Making it difficult for me to see the actual jigsaw puzzle design when trying to put together the actual jigsaw puzzle :(.
