A smug feline monarch (holding a sceptre shaped like a dollar sign) is carried on a litter by two long-suffering subjects. Before the mistreated minions, a fish dangles on a hook, their ever-elusive reward. The figures together form a letter "H" for hegemony, heartlessness, heaviness, hopelessness... or what have you.
The image is a reproduction of an original painting by Leah Palmer Preiss, executed in acrylics over a collaged background of text (scanned from an old dictionary, including the definition of "hegemony") on 6"x 6" canvas.
