Celebrate the holiday with a puzzle that began with hidden meanings centuries ago. Legend of the Twelve Days of Christmas: The twelve days of Christmas in the song are the twelve days between the birth of Christ (Christmas, December 25) and the coming of the Magi (Epiphany, January 6). The song possibly began as a Twelfth Night "memory-and-forfeits" game, and its origins are French. There is a legend that the song had hidden meanings. With certain English interpretations of the first seven days, each of those first seven days has to do with birds. The song was presented in its earliest printed version in the 1780 children's book Mirth Without Mischief. (The song is much older than this printed version, but we do not know how much older.)
