Château de Fontainebleau, situated in the town of Fontainebleau in the Île-de-France region of France, boasts a rich and varied history dating back to the 12th century. Originally a royal hunting lodge, it gained prominence under King Louis VII in the 12th century. However, it was during the Renaissance that the château truly flourished. It served as the backdrop for the signing of the Treaty of Fontainebleau in 1814, which marked Napoleon Bonaparte's abdication and exile to the island of Elba.
