There is more to Far North Queensland, Australia than tropical rainforest and pristine beaches as the state has a rich industrial heritage. This striking photo image is of the Chillagoe Smelter, which used to be the center of a flourishing mining industry in the early twentieth century. The Chillagoe Smelter was in operation until 1943 and was used to smelt copper, lead, silver and gold ore.
