During his long career in Spain, El Greco (Domenikos Theotokopoulos Greek ca. 1577–87)
produced numerous paintings of Christ carrying the cross. Here no other figures are represented and the setting is not recognisable. Instead, it is a devotional image of haunting immediacy and resonant with pathos. Christ's willing sacrifice for mankind is expressed through his gentle embrace of the cross and his heavenward gaze.

The application of this decoupage paper was very simple , applied with PVA glue on a plywood surface. The colour stayed true to paper before application . I used cling film to apply over ply wood , no wrinkles , very pleased with the result.
