Circe Offering the Cup to Ulysses by JW Waterhouse Poster

Circe Offering the Cup to Ulysses by JW Waterhouse Poster

Circe Offering the Cup to Ulysses (1891)by JW Waterhouse is a vintage Victorian Pre-Raphaelite fine art mythological portrait painting. A beautiful young woman is sitting on a chair or a throne. She looks like royalty, a royal Queen and her arms are raised holding a chalice. In mythology, Circe is a minor goddess of magic (nymph, witch, enchantress or sorceress) living on the island of Aeaea, famous for her part in the adventures of Odysseus in Homer's Odyssey. Circe was the daughter of Helios (or Helius), the god of the sun, and Perse, an Oceanid and the sister of Aeetes, the keeper of the Golden Fleece and of Pasiphaë, the mother of the Minotaur. Other accounts make her the daughter of Hecate. Circe transformed her enemies, or those who offended her, into animals through the use of magical potions. She was renowned for her knowledge of drugs and herbs. About the artist: John William Waterhouse (1849-1917) was an English Preraphaelite painter most famous for his paintings of female characters from ancient mythology and literature.

It's a gigantic poster hanging on my bedroom wall. The size is immense and the image resolution is great. I was able to customize it with my own words. The paper is sturdy and solid and durable. It wasn't expensive and I got free shipping too. And I love the picture of the Goddess Circe. The colors are rich and lush and the printing is clear and vivid and bold.

I like the design features on the website. They enable the fitting of a good quality Print to an existing frame. This Print was of excellent quality. I would buy again. One small gripe is that the image was not centred horizontally (about 3mm out) so needed trimming. No great hardship and may have been my fault in the setting-up. Next time, I would choose to set the text below the picture to a smaller font. Overall - Thank You! Looks good in its frame - Just as expected. I had a very expensive Gallery print of this before. It got damaged - hence the replacement. It compares very well.
