Claude Monet Water Lilies Tissue Paper
Claude Monet's "Water Lilies" is a series of paintings that depict the artist's beloved garden pond at his home in Giverny, France. This series is considered one of Monet's most iconic and influential bodies of work, showcasing his unique style and his fascination with capturing the changing effects of light and colour.
The "Water Lilies" series was created by Monet during the last three decades of his life, from the late 1890s until his death in 1926. It consists of numerous paintings that vary in size and composition, all centred around the theme of the water lilies that bloomed in his pond.
Monet's approach to these paintings was revolutionary for its time. He abandoned traditional perspectives and focused on capturing the essence of the scene rather than representing every detail. The paintings often feature a close-up view of the water lilies and their reflections, with the edges of the canvas cropped, giving the impression of an immersive experience for the viewer.
One of the defining characteristics of the "Water Lilies" series is Monet's masterful use of colour and light. He employed a vibrant and harmonious palette, using a multitude of hues to depict the ever-changing atmosphere and the interplay of light and shadow on the water's surface. Monet's loose brushwork and layered application of paint created a sense of movement and fluidity, further enhancing the impressionistic nature of the series.
The "Water Lilies" paintings were not only a reflection of Monet's personal connection to his garden but also a response to the turbulent times in which he lived. They were created during World War I, a period marked by violence and destruction. Monet intended these artworks to provide solace and escape, offering viewers a sense of tranquillity, beauty, and a connection with nature.
Today, Monet's "Water Lilies" series is celebrated as a groundbreaking contribution to the development of modern art. The paintings can be found in museums around the world, and they continue to inspire and captivate audiences with their ethereal beauty, capturing the essence of nature through the artist's unique vision and mastery of colour and light.

The application of this decoupage paper was very simple , applied with PVA glue on a plywood surface. The colour stayed true to paper before application . I used cling film to apply over ply wood , no wrinkles , very pleased with the result.
