Colombia-Plaza Bolivar-Medellin-Iglesia Postcard

Plaza Bolivar is one of our favourite plazas in Medellin because of its neighbourhood feel. While some of the plazas feel like they're totally orientated towards tourism these days, Plaza Bolivar feels like it belongs to the neighbourhood around it. And what a neighbourhood it is! No gentrified high rise attitude here. The popcorn girl befriends you and treats you to a bag. The "tinto" vendor laughs at you when you assume that his tinto is wine like in the rest of Latin America and insists you try a cup. It's coffee! The three old guys playing guitars and singing are doing it for their own enjoyment - and don't object when you take their picture. Yup! This is the neighbourhood place to hang out if you're lucky enough to live in the area instead of the upscale parts of Medellin.
