Concept Fossil Ammonite in vibrant Ink Colouring Canvas Print

This is a concept ink drawing of a highly detailed ammonite fossil, created by the Skycharmer studio in beautiful vivid colours. Ammonite fossils are marine molluscs that lived during the Cretaceous Period (65 million years ago). They belong to the class Cephalopoda, which also includes squid, octopuses and cuttlefish. These predatory molluscs had eyes, tentacles and spiral shells similar to modern nautiloids. Ammonoids first appear in the fossil record 240 million years ago and then split into several distinct lineages that went extinct 65 million years ago at the end of the Cretaceous period. They are more closely related to living squid, octopuses, and cuttlefish than they are to shelled nautiloids such as modern Nautilus species. Ammonoids had a coiled shell and series of interconnected chambers, with their body inside what is known as the head chamber. Furthermore, these shells featured an internal biological pump and siphon system which helped control buoyancy in shallow waters where they thrived.
