He is singing as he accompanies himself with his musical instrument. The man is dressed like a cowboy and he may have worked on a ranch during the day. He is sitting on a simple wooden stool as he plays his music. The background is a brown watercolor wash. The man could have been singing about his daily life as he plucks the strings of his beloved banjo.
