Crater Lake coffee mug
Crater Lake is one of Oregon's natural wonders. It was formed when Mount Mazama, a 12,000 foot tall volcano, erupted and collapsed approximately 7,700 years ago. I painted the original watercolor painting using my iPhone photo as a reference. The lake is so huge that in order to get any trees in the picture, I used a wider angle; hence the big 'dip' in the foreground. If you get the opportunity to visit Crater Lake National Park, be sure to also visit Pinnacles Overlook - one of about 30 scenic areas around the lake rim. The volcanic ash formed into solid rock formations and the scenery is amazing. An easy walk to see this!
