Crater of Diamonds State Park is unique in that it is the only place in the United States where the public can search for real diamonds and keep what they find. The park is situated on an ancient, eroded volcanic pipe, a feature that brought diamonds from deep within the Earth to the surface. Visitors explore a 37.5-acre ploughed field, which is the surface of this diamond-bearing area. Over 35,000 diamonds have been found by park visitors since it became a state park in 1972.
