Finlaystone House was a property of the Dennistoun family before passing to the Cunninghams in the 15th century. It was the seat of the Earl of Glencairn until 1796. The present house was built, or rebuilt, in 1760 following a 14th century structure. Finlaystone House overlooks the river Clyde, near the village of Langbank in the Inverclyde Council area in Renfrewshire. This is now home of the chief of Clan MacMillan and, during normal times, has been open to the public during the summer. The popular red and black family tartan that surrounds the photo and is used throughout is available under Crown Copyright, from the Scottish Register of Tartans, which notes that the black was originally blue, but the colour changed before it was registered.
