Moon over the waters at Daimotsu Bay By Taiso, Yoshitoshi. Daimotsu kaijo no tsuki Print shows a Musashibo Benkei praying to appease the gods and calm the rough seas so that his ship may cross Daimotsu Bay safely. Like many Japanese, Yoshitoshi was interested in new things from the rest of the world, but over time he became increasingly concerned with the loss of many outstanding aspects of traditional Japanese culture, among them traditional woodblock printing. His reputation has only continued to grow, both in the West, and among younger Japanese, and he is now almost universally recognised as the greatest Japanese artist of his era.
