Daisetsuzan National Park is the largest national park in Japan, a true wilderness area in the heart of Hokkaido. Known as 'the playground of the gods,' it is chraacterised by massive mountains, alpine meadows, and active volcanoes. The park offers some of the most spectacular, untouched natural landscapes in the country, attracting hikers, nature lovers, and hot spring enthusiasts. The park's centerpiece is the Daisetsuzan volcanic group, including Mount Asahidake, the highest peak in Hokkaido. This massive plateau is covered in alpine flora that blooms in vibrant colours during the short summer. The park is famous for its autumn foliage, which arrives earlier than anywhere else in Japan, turning the slopes into a tapestry of red, orange, and gold. Daisetsuzan provides a home to a variety of wildlife, including brown bears and Hokkaido sika deer, in a serene, untamed environment.
