This is a large oil painting by Renoir and is one of three. All three paintings may have been intended to be seen together. The original paintings are in a tall vertical format with life size figures. The same two people posed for each of the three paintings depict young Parisian couples dancing in different outdoor settings.
In this painting we see a petite-bourgeois couple dancing under trees in an outdoor cafe. The man appears a bit aggressive in his dance movements and she is looking for her violet bouquet that dropped to the floor.
