I made twisted squares and put several other twisted squares on. So I threw in some colours and after a lot of 'twisting' the image, it looked like a crazy person took a brush and painted it. It was even one of the images I liked the most, and this is the 'black & white' version - filter -, that got a lot of grey and that can seem like some depth.
