Since 1980, the Desert View Tower and adjacent Boulder Park (the Rock Labyrinth or Rock Maze) have been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It's easy to see why, with the deep sense of Route 66-type history that is rarely found in the southwest these days. Located off historic Route 80, and bypassed by the 8 Freeway, this southern California landmark is steeped in nostalgia. It's not a flashy, plastic commercial place, but a local road side attraction that's still run by one guy who owns it and lives there with a pack of sleepy dogs.
