The Doges Palace (Le Palais Ducal) by Claude Monet, oil on canvas 1908, is a landscape painting of the ancient, monumental structure in Venice Italy, depicted bathed in warm sunlight against a deep blue sky, its reflection in the shimmering waters of the Venetian canals. The thick strokes of oil colours in a range of deep blue to pink, green, and bright warm yellow, contrast the horizontal Gothic facade with the verticality of its bright reflections in the gentle river waves. Monet painted the scene in a gondola en plein air from life while visiting Venice that year.
