Early Evening Sun, Epsom Downs, Surrey This is a pastel based on photographs I took at Epsom Downs, home of the famous Derby flat race. This view is from beside the grandstand looking over to the start of the race track, with the corn fields of Langley Vale in the background. I took my study photos on a summer’s evening as the golden light was cast over the fields and the shadows were long. I drive over the Downs every day and never tire of the lovely view and big skies.
