The picture shows the profile of a young woman, dressed in a bonnet (headgear) and a peignoir (dressing gown). Her features are beautiful and the skin seems smooth and silky. The light that falls from above captures the woman's bonnet and collar in an elegant way. The brushstrokes become bolder towards the edges, which adds movement and life to the painting. The most remarkable about the painting may still be the impression of spontaneity. Edelfelt had the rare ability to capture a spontaneous moment and then transfer it in a painterly form. With this portrait he seems to have caught his model in a moment of thoughtfulness and introspection.
