This heartfelt watercolor print was masterfully painted by elephant researcher Elise Gilchrist, the illustrator of My Backyard Elephant. Featured in the scene is Cara and her mother, and is seen in My Backyard Elephant during a touching scene about Cara's past. Young elephant females share a close attachment to their mothers - one of the closest relationships in the animal world. Most daughters stay in the same family groups as their mothers until one of them passes away, and they are always close. This image is a symbol of that family love, of the protection and education our mother's gave us, and of the quirky adorableness of new babies (both human and elephant!)
