End of the Trail Canvas Print

This well-known image was originally a sculpture made by James Earle Fraser in 1894. The sculpture and its image were not copyrighted so not long after it became well-known, many copies, prints and items like belt buckles were reproduced. James Earle Fraser wrote in one of his memoirs of his sculpture: "as a boy, I remembered an old Dakota trapper saying, 'The Indians will someday be pushed into the Pacific Ocean.'" He later said: ""the idea occurred to me of making an Indian which represented his race reaching the end of the trail, at the edge of the Pacific." Many view this image as a sense of perseverance, endurance and strength.
