Temple of Diana, Evora, Portugal The Roman temple was built in the 1st century to honour the Emperor Augustus. (A Portuguese priest in the 17th centurythough the building was dedicated to the godess Diana.) One of the multiple German invasions destroyed it and the remains were incorporated into the mediaeval fortifications of Evora. It was used as a butcher shop from the 14th century until 1836. The mediaeval constructions were removed in the late 19th century. Today it's listed as a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO.
