Eyam, the Historic Plague Village in Derbyshire Mouse Mat

On September 3rd 1665, a package of cloth arrived from London for Eyam's tailor. There were unwelcome passengers inside - fleas carrying the Black Death. Once the people of Eyam realised that the plague was amongst them, they took a very courageous decision. They quarantined the whole village, in order to save their neighbours from certain death. In the process, three-quarters of the population of Eyam perished. The historic 17th century houses, in which they lived, are still there.
