The F-14 Tomcat is a variable-sweep wing fighter aircraft developed by Grumman for the U.S. Navy. Introduced in the 1970s, the F-14 is renowned for its distinctive wing design, which can be adjusted to optimise performance at different speeds and altitudes. It was initially designed for fleet air defence with its powerful radar and long-range Phoenix missiles, but it also served in multiple roles, including air superiority and ground attack. The F-14's advanced avionics and versatility made it a mainstay of the U.S. Navy's air combat operations until its retirement in the 2000s, after which it was replaced by the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet. The F-14 remains an iconic aircraft, widely recognised for its role in both military and popular culture.
