Family Concert in Basel (by Sebastian Gutzwiller) Tile

This design features a painting by the 19th-century artist Sebastian Gutzwiller (1798–1872), who was born in the French region of Alsace on the border with Germany. It depicts a musical concert taking place in an elegant family home based in the Swiss city of Basel. There is a lady playing a piano or harpischord and a gentleman playing a violin. A boy is seated at a table as he plays a flute or similar woodwind instrument. There is an old lady knitting in the corner of the room and other family members are relaxing and enjoying the music. There is also girl playing with a baby and showing it pictures in a book to keep it entertained. Finally, there is a small dog in the room. The room is elegantly furnished with fine wooden furniture and there are many paintings and ornaments on the walls.
