Ferguson homestead ornament - The Cedars - on the reverse picture of Brick House Jack Ferguson and Eleanor One of the earliest brick houses in North Carolina - built by the family who worked on Mount Vernon - the Trippletts. The Fergusons came to own it through marriage to Nellie (Eleanor) Tripplett. The new owner became know as Brick House Jack. Because of the Ferguson's generous hospitality many important people stayed in the Brick House when they traveled through this area of the country. And many enjoyed good conversation and the fine table set before them and many a poor folk found a good meal there too. The fire that destroyed the Brick House did not destroy the family or the memories of the good times had within.
