The family crest of Yoshida Shoin (drawn on 2013/5/6). Shoin tried to stow away on Perry's ship when it revisited Shimoda, but was caught. When asked his name by an American officer, he gave the alias 'Uri-naka Manji', which is a play on the colloquial name for this design, 'Swastika within a gourd', i.e., Shoin's family crest. (Reference: 'Kamon Hyakuwa (Ge)' by Niwa Mototsugu) There are other theories about the alias he used, including 'Kanouchi Manji' and 'Kuwanou Manji'.

Good quality t-shirt, I didn't expect too much but it's good quality, matched the invites for my sons party and he absolutely loved opening this on his big day. Went straight to school with it, too! Print looks very good, vibrant colours, washing very well, too. I don't tumble dry tshirts so can't comment on that. Lovely idea for a birthday child!
