Flaming June by Frederic Leighton Jigsaw Puzzle
Flaming June by Frederic Leighton, oil on canvas 1895, is a painting of a draped female figure in repose, reclining in an elegant marble interior, the natural light of the setting sun illuminating the scene in a range of warm, brilliant colors like liquid gold. The elegant, classical figure and smooth contours evoke the nymphs and draped figures of the sculpture of classical Greece, while the inclusion of the toxic Oleander plant above provides a Romantic reminder of the link between sleep and death. Flaming June is the artist’s most famous painting among many that are regaining recognition after a long period of neglect of art of the Victorian era.
Frederic Leighton (1830 - 1896) was an English painter and sculptor associated with the British Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood of artists. After studying in London and on the continent of Europe, and living for a time in Paris, Leighton settled in London where he began producing works based on classical, Biblical and historical subject matter. Leighton was an associate and President of the Royal Academy who helped to spark a renewal of British sculpture, and received the French Legion of Honor. The Pre-Raphaelite movement partook of the brilliant, jewel-like colors, intricate detail and compositional styles of Quattrocento Renaissance art, which Leighton infused with influences from the schools of Romanticism and Realism. Leighton died as the only artist to receive a peerage, and today his house stands as a museum in London.

I bought this jigsaw in 252 pieces because I originally bought it in 110 pieces. I found it a bit of a leap in terms of time commitment as this one took me approx 5 hours. It was definitely challenging and was on my boundary of tolerance. This is because I like to complete a puzzle in just a few hours. I find thousands of pieces tedious and having to store them leads to lostvpieces. I can never commit Diego busy lifestyle and not knowing when I will find the time and or motivation to go back to a puzzle.
The puzzle comes in a really durable gift box that will keep puzzle secure for a long time. It also fits neatly on to a small bookcase for storage. The image was centrally fixed with no border lines,it was also very good quality image.

Nice compact box, however, the picture of the jigsaw on the box is literally no more than 4 x 3 inches and as this is supposed to be a gift for someone to make the jigsaw based on the picture - I'm not sure how they are supposed to do that with such a small picture?! Can I suggest the box contains a larger picture of the jigsaw for those less able to see the extremely small details on the box sticker.
