    Flock of Cranes (right side of a pair of screens) c 1770 by Ishida Yūtei. The cranes are on a gilded background, both screens feature a total of 36 cranes. Species include the red-crowned crane (tancho), the white-naped crane (manazuru), and the hooded crane (nabezuru). Their postures and movements reflect the growing interest in naturalism characteristic of the mid-Edo period.
