Floral Coral - Bonaire Poster

This amazing colony of orange floral coral had established itself on a huge piling that is a support for the Salt Pier that's a landmark on the small island of Bonaire ( part of the Netherland Antilles. I photographed this image with a Nikonos 5 underwater set up using a two substobe light set up with one unit a large light the other smaller for fill. I was diving at night so all lighting from the two units. The depth was about 45 feet underneath far end of pier. What was strange about the dive was I was underneath a huge ship that was loading salt which is Bonaire's main export. Late at night, diving alone, at depth, I could clearly hear all the variety of activity going onboard the titanic ship - the crew talking - yelling above the roar of all the pumps, compressors , air conditioners - Scraping of moving large structures around, the sound of the salt being conveyed along the long pier from where it was produced in the shallow ponds covering the island. - Wayne Green
