French Queen Ingeborg of Denmark 6 Cm Round Badge

Ingeborg of Denmark was the second wife of King Philip II of France. The day after their marriage he tried to repudiate her, and when she fled to the safety of a convent he had her imprisoned. Their divorce battle played out over ten years, with Philip marrying for a third time despite the Pope banning him from doing so. Ingeborg ultimately won. She was released, Philip acknowledged her as Queen and his wife. On his deathbed he asked his sons to treat her kindly. Ingeborg spent a quiet retirement in a French convent.
