Garden Butterfly - Sticker

This butterfly image is cropped from a larger color plate reproduction and appeared in m the book, “An Edwardian Bestiary”, 1899, by Edward Julius and Charles Maurice Detmold. Edward Julius Detmold, 1883-1957, and Charles Maurice Detmold, 1883-1908, were prolific Victorian book illustrators. The twin brothers were born in London and they were tutored by an uncle who had a love for natural history. At the age of 13, they exhibited watercolors at the Royal Academy and had a portfolio of etchings issued in 1898. The Detmold brothers created their first book of animal art at the age of 16.
