Georges Seurat - The Circus Napkin

The Circus (Le Cirque), painted by Georges Seurat in 1891, captures a lively circus performance with a woman acrobat on horseback, a clown, other performers and a tiered audience. Sweeping curves and the contrast between the ring and the spectators give the scene its distinctive energy, while Seurat's divisionist colour defines its Neo-Impressionist style. Left unfinished at his death, this oil on canvas is held by the Musée d'Orsay.
