    I was constantly harping on my family to park their dirty dishes in the dishwasher instead of pile them up on the counter. When I finally got my teenager to start doing just that, he placed a breakfast plate dripping with maple syrup in a dishwasher full of clean dishes washed the night before! Obviously I needed a way to signal whether the dishes were clean or dirty. My house is decorated in early American German Shepherd Dog décor, so this was a natural creation idea.
