【Sumikiri-kaku ni Ichou-zuru】Ginkgo crest This design was created with reference to Nakamura-za theater's tower drawn in 'Prosperity in the Eastern Capital' by Hiroshige Utagawa, published in 'Family crests and surnames' by Takarajima-sha (September 20, 2014). Originally, the family crest of Kanzaburo Nakamura was 'dancing crane in a circle.' However, the 5th shogun, Tsunayoshi Tokugawa, prohibited the use of the character or design of 'crane,' which was the name of his beloved daughter. Therefore, the ginkgo design, which resembles a crane spreading its wings and is also similar to an auspicious fan shape, was chosen instead (Takarajima-sha 'Family crests and surnames').
