Glass Eel - Sea of Thailand
I found this rare Glass Eel while diving in the vicinity of Phi Phi Island. He was around 50 feet down snaking through the water looking as if he was made of frosted glass, quite translucent and alien looking. I've had several hundred dives and this is the one and only time to ever get a glimpse of the rare eel. I have photographed several other species of eels, especially many types around the Caribbean, but this is my favourite type of eel and I'm so glad I got to see this one in the waters of the Sea of Thailand. By the way, I made the image only a couple of months before the huge Tsunami hit wiping out that area of Southeast Asia along with the tiny Phi Phi Island which was where I was staying and from where I set out from in a longboat to make the dive. - W.G.
