Glass Window Arts by Louis Tiffany Card

Louis C. Tiffany was an artist who painted, but is more known for his decorative stained glass windows, lamps, and luxury items. As a painter, he became very interested in the Arts and Crafts Movement and his eye went towards the decorative arts and interior design. He always had a quest for Beauty and it showed in his decorative glass artworks. Starting in about 1880 the tired art of the past was retired in the art world and the look of Art Nouveau and Louis Tiffany glass decorative art took hold. He used a variety of media and materials in his work. Later he had to create his own glass manufacturing method because the quality of glass found for stained glass craftwork was not to be found anywhere in the world, except one other glass maker in Bohemia. In designing the church windows, many times he used untreated glass and resorted to using enamel and paintwork to draw figures and faces. As his glass manufacturing grew he began using an iridescent glass in his artwork known as lustre glass. The glass was blended in infinite ways to create colour found in nature. No one had the expertise in this like Louis Tiffany did.
