Slide a horizontal line downward over this design, and it will be divided by more and more vertical lines. At any point, the spacing of the divisions of the horizontal line will be surprisingly uniform, given that the vertical lines do not move. The pattern is generated by a recursion using the Golden Ratio (R = 0.61803398874989484820458683436564). Left edge = 0, Right edge = 1. Tallest line at R. Next tallest at fractional part of 2*R, next at fract(3*R), etc. Divide the width into N equal zones, and the first N lines will fall one in each zone -- exactly for N <= 21, and frequently or approximately for N > 21. At any level (of N vertical lines), the largest distance between adjacent lines divided by the smallest distance between adjacent lines is either exactly R+1 or R+2.
