Fireworks burst over the Country Club Plaza Shopping Centre in Kansas City at the annual lighting ceremony on Thanksgiving night. The holiday lights are turned on at Thanksgiving and glow until mid-January. The Plaza was the first shopping centre in the world designed to accommodate shoppers arriving by automobile. Established in 1922 by J. C. Nichols, the Plaza was designed architecturally after Seville, Spain.
