1892, Wool and mohair; tapestry weave forest landscape with pear chestnut and oak trees, shrubs, flowers, and animals such as deer, rabbits, and a fox. flowers depicted include foxgloves, tulips, daisies, bluebells. Above the pear tree is banner bearing the inscription: "By woodsman edge I faint and fail, by craftsman's edge I tell the tale" The banner above the chestnut tree reads "High in the wood, high o'er the hall, aloft I rise, when low I fall." And above the oak tree: "Unmoved I stand what wind may blow, swift swift before the wind I go." Commissioned in 1892 by Madeleine and Percy Wyndham Designed by Henry Dearle, woven at Merton Abbey by John Martin and William Sleath stately fancy elegant sophisticated floral nature landscape art, fine classic art maximalist decor
