Grey Squirrel Tree Carving
I took this photo on a bike ride in my local park. Bute Park, Cardiff, Wales UK. There are some nice peices of public art in Bute Park.
This little carving is of a grey squirrel and as far as I can ascertain it is by an artist called Nancy Hemmings, and was commissioned in 2004 by the City Council.
Actually there are lots of real grey squirrels in Bute Park you see them in the trees jumping from branch to branch. Interestingly enough the Grey Squirrel was originally introduced into the UK from the USA in the late 19th Century and has sadly displaced the native red squirrel.
But looking on the bright side it is rather neat to be able to go to ones local park and be able to say one has seen an invasion of grey aliens. :)
