Guardsman, Household Cavalry Postcard

The Guardsmen of the Household Cavalry are one of the "ceremonial" battalions in London. With their brass helmets and scarlet coats they bring colour and interest to London's streets. They can be found on duty particularly around Whitehall and the Horse Guards Parade area. This photograph of a guardsman on sentry duty along Whitehall at the junction with Downing Street, shows a mounted guardsman with helmet, tunic and sword. It is an utterly ageless scene that could be from a bygone era, and a fitting souvenir of London.
