Hasani Cannon Collection Tote Bag : Red Queen

Red Queen (Grandma’s Piece): This piece depicts a beautiful African woman in vibrant red “fabric” with a basket over her head. Around her are luscious red-orange-yellow tones complemented by light green vegetation along with swirling, interconnected adinkra symbols for Strength. This piece was inspired by the strength and beauty of the women in my life showcased by the physical attractiveness of the woman but also the use of alluring warm colours like red and orange. Her strength is showcased not only explicitly by the adinkra symbol of it, but also by her assertive stance and carrying of the bowl on top of her head. I used skittle bags, tea bags, aluminium foil, colour pencil and permanent marker to create this piece.
