Historic Puritan Christmas Cancelled Holiday Card
Treat your loved ones to this fun, timely history themed Puritan Christmas card, remembering the period in the 17th Century, during the rule of Oliver Cromwell, when Christmas festivities were banned by Parliament. The ban was incredibly unpopular, and the verse on the front of the card comes from a ballad, of the time, called 'The World Turned Upside Down', criticising the new laws. In reality, many people simply ignored the ban and continued to celebrate. In 1660, with the Restoration, it was revoked, yet, the message again seems fitting for the current times we are living in. (P.S. Mince Pies were technically only banned in 1644 when Christmas fell on a legally-mandated fast day.)
