Historic Sumpter was established as a gold mining town in 1862. Sumpter is located in eastern Oregon's Baker County and includes wonderful Oregon State Parks depicting a gold dredge and a historical narrow gauge railroad with train riding opportunities including train robberies by bandits on horseback. Sumpter is popular for it's three holiday flea markets when the town fills with vendors and bargain shoppers in May, July and August. Winter finds snow happy recreationists and tourists enjoying snowmobiling, poker runs, snowshoeing treks, a tree lighting parade, holiday bazaars and frosty train rides in a winter wonderland.
