This shot shows the huge inlet towers that drive water in the Hoover Dam. The towers deliver enough of a hydraulic head to drive the huge electricity generating turbines that are located deep within the concrete arch-gravity dam itself. However, as can be seen with this shot, the water level in Lake Mead has dropped somewhat in recent years. A little as i know about power generation, the one consoling factor is that the potential energy is a function of head, raised only the power of 1. Nevertheless, i wonder just how much this affects the power generation capability of the dam.
